Saluting the Motherland
सुजलां सुफलां मलयजशीतलाम् — Blessed with water and fruit, cooled by the southern breeze
The Sacred Song
A hymn of divine reverence to the Motherland, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1882, that became the battle cry of India's freedom movement and touched the soul of a nation.
"Vande Matharam" translates to "I bow to thee, Mother." Written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in his 1882 novel Anandamath, the song personifies India as a goddess — lush, fertile, and nurturing — deserving of reverence and devotion from all her children.
First sung at the Indian National Congress session in 1896 by Rabindranath Tagore, it became a rallying cry during the Swadeshi Movement of 1905 and the broader independence struggle. The British colonial administration tried to ban it — a testament to its revolutionary power.
Thousands of freedom fighters sang "Vande Matharam" as they marched to prison, faced bullets, and gave their lives. On 24 January 1950, the Constituent Assembly declared it the National Song of independent India — a song that unites 1.4 billion hearts.

Words that Moved a Nation
At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind.
If yet your blood does not rage, then it is water that flows in your veins. For what is the flush of youth, if it is not of service to the motherland. Vande Matharam!
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; where knowledge is free; where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls — into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
Strength is life, weakness is death. Expansion is life, contraction is death. Love is life, hatred is death. Arise, awake, and stop not until the goal is reached!
India is not a country of the past; it is a country of tomorrow. Our civilization is not old; it is new in the service of the ideals that are eternal. Bharat Mata ki Jai!
